podium finisher last year, expertly sealing the deal on the B-Main win on the final lap and scoring the A-main transfer in the process.
The first A-main of the year would see Ayrton Demoss and Diego Morales lead the field away at the start, with field being a bit antsy; a quick approach would see them head around one more time, the 15-lap contest shaved by one, with the green coming out successfully on the second try. Demoss would lead through the first complex, but with the door wide open in turn 4, P3 starter Andres Prieto took the shot, with the pair coming out side by side down the hill, and into Sportivo for the first time. Trapped on the outside, Demoss would slip back 7 spots as the train capitalized, with Prieto leading but coming under fire from his 2020 title rival, Diego Morales. Morales would lead lap one, with Sam Hunt coming through as well, and it was Hunt that wasted no time getting to the lead, stealing away the top spot on lap 2. With a bit of jostling for position over the next lap or so, Hunt was able to get out to about a 1 second lead, an advantage that seemed to stay unchanged as Bill Kreig gave chase in second. The driver on the move however was last year’s Sportsman champ Diego Alvarado, working his way through the field and into second by lap 10. Once there, he and Kreig would link up, pulling away from the battling behind them to secure their podium spots, but just could not make any inroads to Hunt. For Sam, it would be his 4th win in a row on the Sportivo layout, kicking off his Super Series title defense in style, while Diego Alvarado enjoyed not only his first career podium, but also the new track record, with Bill Kreig adding yet another podium in his long sport karting career.
