SportKart USA wishes to congratulate Aaron Downs on his impressive run this past weekend to claim the title of National Champion and the $2,000 cash prize. In his ten starts, Aaron amassed a record 5 wins in a row, and four other races where he finished either 2nd or 3rd. Nine races in the top 3! Congrats Aaron, that was a fantastic performance, and a well deserved title.
Second place went to his step brother Jon Kimbrell, who took home $1000 via his four wins, and four other top three finishes, while 3rd place would go to Brit Sean Brierley, scoring a pair of wins, en route to a $750 payday. The final two spots on the podium went to Norcal Driver Jerott King and local Logan Calvin, with checks in hand for $550 and $450 respectively.
Also congratulations to Fred Ogrim from North Carolina who brought home the Masters Championship in his first year in the category, being joined on the podium by local drivers Diego Morales and David Kelmenson from a deeply talented field of Masters drivers.
Sport Kart USA would like to thank everyone for being a part of the 3rd annual Sport Kart Grand Nationals presented by DeCuzzi Tires. The 2014 edition of this event attracted 94 drivers representing 20 states and 5 countries.
The Sport Kart Grand Nationals has grown over 3 short years to become one of the most competitive kart racing events on the planet. This growth is largely due to the year-to-year evolution of the program and the top driving talent the event attracts. This year we raced 2 brand new track configurations, added the Super Pole runoff and handed out some sweet new kicks for our pre-registered drivers.
One thing that has remained constant since the origin of the Sport Kart Grand Nationals is the spirit and sportsmanship of our competitors.
While the racing battles on track may be intense and hard fought, the camaraderie and attitude in the paddock is second to none. Thank you for attending our event and contributing to that feeling.
This year DeCuzzi Tires, Random Manufacturing, Granstand, Go Racing Magazine, K1 Racegear, Courtyard Marriot, Uber, Lazy Dog Café and Lucas Oil all made contributions to help make this event possible. We sincerely appreciate their support and encourage all competitors to support those companies that support kart racing.
Thanks again to everyone for attending the 2014 Sport Kart Grand Nationals, and for those that watched from home. We look forward to seeing you next year for the 4th annual edition scheduled for June 26-28, 2015 at CalSpeed Karting Center.
